THE TOM THOMPSON GALLERY

Tom Thomson (1877–1917) was a pioneering Canadian landscape painter whose evocative depictions of the wilderness helped shape national identity. Born in Claremont, Ontario, he grew up exploring nature and developed a deep reverence for its mystery. Though largely self-taught, Thomson’s bold brushwork and vivid colors captured the rugged beauty of Algonquin Park, where he spent much of his time. His iconic works, including The Jack Pine and The West Wind, influenced the Group of Seven, a collective of Canadian artists. Thomson’s life was tragically cut short at age 39, but his legacy endures as a symbol of Canadian artistic spirit.
