Biography Victoria Zyluk 2025
Calgary-based artist Victoria Zyluk has spent a lifetime fostering creativity, education, and a deep connection to the land. A signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, she discovered her passion for art at an early age while growing up on her family’s farm. Surrounded by sweeping landscapes and historical architecture, she developed a profound appreciation for nature’s beauty and the stories embedded within old buildings, both of which would later become central themes in her work.
Victoria’s artistic journey is rooted in exploration. Early in her career, she studied with numerous esteemed artists, refining her skills while embracing the ever-changing world of creative expression. Her travels across Europe, North America, and various island destinations exposed her to diverse artistic techniques and cultural influences, enriching both her approach and subject matter. She continues to experiment with new methods and materials, describing her style as Intuitive Abstract Impressionism—a fusion of energy, movement, and emotion. Her work spans multiple mediums, including watercolor, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, and oils, though she is currently captivated by the possibilities of acrylics.
Beyond her personal practice, Victoria has dedicated much of her life to education. After earning her degree, she spent nearly 40 years as an educator, teaching K–8 students across several provinces and the Northwest Territories in both the public and separate school systems. Her passion for nurturing creativity extended beyond the classroom—she led workshops, presented at the Banff Centre, and taught Continuing Education courses, inspiring learners of all ages to explore artistic expression. Additionally, she played an integral role in organizing fundraising events, including a dinner and art auction to support education, demonstrating her commitment to giving back to the community.
Victoria’s influence within the arts scene continues to grow. Her work has been showcased in numerous galleries throughout Calgary and featured in the prestigious Calgary Stampede Art Auction. She actively participates in artist organizations and has served on arts councils, advocating for the importance of creative expression in public spaces. As an advocate for historical preservation, she currently serves as the Art Exhibition Coordinator for the Bow Valley Ranche Historical Society, a role that allows her to support fellow artists while promoting the significance of local history.
Artist Statement
"Art is an essential part of our humanity, and its significance in our well-being cannot be overstated. It is a powerful force—one that allows us to question, reflect, and heal. My work is an invitation to explore possibilities, to shift perspectives, and to embrace the unknown. As both an artist and educator, I encourage people to ask, ‘What if…?’—because within that question lies endless creative potential."
