"A Gift That Outlives The Moment"

Biography: Victoria Zyluk
Victoria Zyluk is a Canadian artist whose luminous landscapes reflect a life shaped by the quiet beauty of her rural upbringing. Raised on a general farm, she spent her childhood surrounded by woodlands, open fields, and winding streams. These early experiences instilled a deep connection to the land and naturally guided her toward landscape painting as her primary artistic language.
Before devoting herself fully to her art practice, Victoria built a distinguished 40‑year career as an educator. She inspired generations of students through creative exploration, critical thinking, and hands‑on engagement with the arts. Her influence extended well beyond the classroom: she presented to the Alberta Teachers’ Association, led workshops across the province, contributed to Art for Education fundraising initiatives, and served on arts councils dedicated to strengthening visual arts programming within her school division.
As an artist, Victoria is known for her recognizable style—loose, expressive brushstrokes layered with light, textures, and a sense of movement. Her paintings capture the experience of the landscape, inviting viewers into moments shaped by atmosphere, memory, and emotional resonance. An award‑winning painter and Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, she continues to evolve her practice, exploring new ways to apply colour, layering, and textures, constantly asking “What if…?” and inviting the viewer to also explore possibilities.
Victoria’s commitment to community has led her to play a significant role in shaping Calgary’s plein air culture. She is the founding member and President of Canada Paints Plein Air Inc., an outdoor painting competition celebrating artists from Calgary and surrounding areas. She also founded Plein Air For Fun, a free, wellness‑focused initiative offering accessible outdoor painting excursions that encourage people to reconnect with nature and creativity.
In addition to her personal practice and community leadership, Victoria serves as the Art Exhibition Coordinator for the Bow Valley Ranche Historical Society, curating exhibitions that highlight local talent and honour the region’s cultural heritage. A dedicated member of several art organizations, she continues to contribute her time, expertise, and generous spirit to the broader arts community.
Today, Victoria continues experiencing her artistic journey with curiosity and openness, creating work that reflects a life deeply connected to nature, education, and community.
