Why Invest in Art? The Benefits of Owning an Original Painting

Updated: Oct 15, 2023

As I prepare for our exhibit at The Beacon Original Art Exhibition, I often think about buying original art as opposed to prints!

  • Original paintings are unique artworks that come from the mind and hands of an artist. They reflect the artist’s creativity, imagination, and skills. Prints are copies or reproductions of original paintings that may not capture the same quality and detail.

  • Original paintings are made with high-quality art materials that can last for a long time. Prints are usually made with cheaper materials that can fade or deteriorate over time.

  • Original paintings can appreciate in value over time, especially if they are certified and part of a series. Prints are usually mass-produced and have a lower market value.

Of course, the choice is ultimately yours. You may like prints for their affordability, convenience, or variety. But if you want to own a unique and valuable artwork that can improve your life in many ways, you may want to consider buying an original painting.

  • “Art is not an investment. Art is something you buy because you are financially solvent enough to give yourself a pleasure of living with great works rather than having to just see them in museums. People who are buying art at the top of the market as an investment are foolish.” - Arne Glimcher

“Most people view the artistic process as something of a mystery. Leverage that, and engage your prospective clients with good stories. For many, buying art is their escape from the real world. Make it entertaining and enjoyable.” - Cory Trepanier.

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” - Pablo Picasso.
