Work hard ? Of course we believe we work hard. But what does that mean? How hard? Each artist has a different image of what that would look like. It also depends on your goals and what sacrifices you are willing to make. If you are driven to create it might affect your health, finances, or relationships.
Should there be a balance? Is it possible? Many great artists have undergone trauma, psychological or health issues to express their beliefs through creativity. When someone looks at a painting do they ponder the effort and expertise it took to create it? Or is that dismissed as inconsequential? Now to address the question What is the work that is required? We paint with the inherent desire to improve our work. It could happen that even if you painted day and night there may not be improvement! In case of that sad outcome,

it is important to reflect and analyze what you are doing. As the saying goes “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you will get the same results!” Are you truly willing to change direction, explore, and seek learning and above all put in the hours? And YES, it is labour intensive!
